On the 24th August I shall be presenting remotely at the above Conference. My presentation will focus on a major weakness of current .service provision for children – namely the assumption that an observed “behavioural disorder” is always a sign of a “mental illness” disorder.
I shall demonstrate an empirical pathway approach to assessing behaviour. In particular the assessment will focus on whether the child or YP can adequately comprehend their environment. Comprehending the environment accurately and responding accordingly is initially, a complex biological and physiological process . It is easy to assume a child “knows” or “comprehends” what they are doing when they can have little or no idea “what they are doing”..
A further advantage of the Pathway described is that it can significantly reduce the demand on CAMHS by early identification of issues and re-direction of a non psychological or psychiatric matters to other agencies/therapies.
I am very happy to talk with others interested in the issue.
